‘Colour My City’ gives Hubballi vibrant look
Hubballi: During the recent Lok Sabha elections, with the aim of keeping public spaces clean while also sending out a message to people, a team of youngsters painted a filthy wall in a Hubballi ward. It wasn’t the only wall either. It was a clean, fresh look. The name was ‘Colour My City’, a volunteer organisation working on Club Road at Sarafkavalg Gline circle and Bold Road, besides other places.
‘Colour My City’, a volunteer organisation has nearly 25 members. They come from diverse backgrounds — from ragpickers to working professionals — and chose to work to deface political posters, pamphlets, graffiti, and advertisements.
The team has supporters among corporators and shopkeepers. Many reported their equipment necessary for removing muck and paan stains.
Kiran said walls for first cleanup and art project were shortlisted online. “We took school walls and beautified them. Many schools who were neglected by authorities — whose compound walls were a blot — were fixed,” he said.
The team is now awaiting support from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation to continue painting walls with positive messages.
