Hubballi: A group of young professionals under the banner Color My City have taken up the task of beautifying government schools and public spaces. After successfully transforming 4 schools in Hubballi city, they extended their efforts to a village school in Sherewad on the outskirts of the city.

The Government Higher Primary School in Sherewad got a colourful facelift as the volunteers painted its compound walls and classrooms with meaningful and attractive visuals. Kiran Uppar, founder of Color My City, said: “When teachers from previous schools told us student attendance increased after our beautification efforts, we felt encouraged. That’s when we decided to work on a rural school.”

The painting work was carried out over 6 days between January 26 and February 10. Volunteers from different backgrounds – engineers, lecturers, businessmen, artists – participated, contributing both their time and money. The Nehru Yuva Kendra contributed ₹20,000 towards paint, and the group spent an additional ₹10,000 from their own pockets.

Jeetendra Shighalli, a lecturer who participated, said, “It was a great experience working in the village. Students and villagers were enthusiastic and supported us.”

Environmental activist Lingraj Niduvani emphasized how such initiatives raise awareness among students about cleanliness, fitness, and nature.

N V Sasalwad, the school headmistress, praised the effort: “Our school had good facilities, but lacked aesthetics. Now students are more motivated, and the community is appreciating the transformation.”
